Today BMW officially unveiled their i 3 Concept Sports car. This car was initially known as the Megacity Model but it has been introduced in the Frankfurt Motor Show of the year 2011. This car is scheduled to be available on sale in 2013.
Both the all new BMW i3 and i8 sports concept coupe are of the first versions been manufactures at Bavarian firm’s i sub-category. After manufacturing these cars, the Bavarian company now plans to introduce a new range of environment friendly automatic vehicles.
According to the makers, the all new BMW i3 is the first ever completely electric model specially launched for the mass market. This specially designed five –door hatchback is specially crafted in the “Life Drive” style.
The car is manufactured in aluminum and the body with carbonfire reinforced plastic materials. To reduce the body weight and make it the sportiest car in this category, the makers have chosen theses materials CFRP, which according to the researches is 30% lighter than steel. For high performance the model is prepared with special features like, electric motor that is placed on the rear axle and helps in moving the back wheels.
It’s a superior edition of the electric motor commonly uses on the MINI E model and it produces an output of 170-horses (125 kW) and 250 Nm (184 lb.ft) assisting the BMW i3 to pick up the pace from 0 to 60 km/h (37 mph) in less than four seconds and from 0 to 100 km/h (62 mph) in less than eight seconds. The mono-speed fear box helps car to run at 150km/h speed. The car electric motor is supplied with a large lithium-ion battery that can be easily charged in six hours from any domestic power supply.
Based on the movement of this model the company has planned to launch the fuel economic range in future.
